The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) carried the Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) “On the requirements for the energy efficiency of energy-consuming devices”

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) carried the Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) “On the requirements for the energy efficiency of energy-consuming devices” in the August 2019.

Scope of the application applied to household and office equipment like:, vacuum cleaners, TVs, computers, washing and dish- washing machines, , refrigerators room fans, water pumps and other electrical devices, as well as directional light lamps and LED lamps and air conditioners

The Regulation was developed by the EEC in conjunction with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in order to ensure the energy efficiency of these devices and thereby save energy. The EEC includes such countries as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. The Technical Regulations are the equivalent of the European Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC.

In addition, the EAEU Technical Regulation will help prevent the actions of unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who sometimes mislead consumers about the energy efficiency of such devices. Certain types of energy-consuming devices will be equipped with marks and technical sheets about energy efficiency in order to better inform customers.

The document enters into force on September 1, 2021. The transitional period is 24 months (until September 1, 2023).

In accordance with the decision of the EEC Council, the implementation of certain requirements of the technical regulations of the Union is envisaged, they will ensure a smooth transition of manufacturers of energy-consuming devices to uniform mandatory requirements.

Decisions of the Commission are in a binding form for the countries of the Union.
